The 14 Best--Or Worst?--Fashion Knock-Offs Of 2014
December 19, 2014
Mansur Gavriel and Burberry hit it big in 2014—Mansur Gavriel for managing to design a really plain collection of handbags that people went nuts over, and Burberry for designing a blanket (that they call a poncho) that was literally on every celeb and socialite in existence. But when a designer nails the next big thing, it’s only a matter of time before other brands want a piece of the action, so it really didn’t surprise us when we found copies of the Mansur Gavriel bucket bag at Forever21 and the Burberry poncho at Choies.
No lie, we love ourselves a good copy when it’s a lot cheaper than the real thing (hello Sam Edelman ‘rock-stud pumps), but it’s totally strange when a big brand rips off another big brand—which is sort of what Tory Burch and Jennifer Fisher did to Vita Fede this year. Those two designers may have gotten away with it, but other brands got called out. Remember back in June when Kaiser Karl was handed a lawsuit by New Balance? Or how about when Converse went after not one, not two, but 31 brands for knocking off the Chuck Taylor’s? Let’s continue on this walk down memory lane to remember 14 notorious knock-offs that went down in 2014.
