The 2-Second Trick For Figuring Out The Tip At A Restaurant
November 7, 2016
Ask any of my friends how many tips I’ve figured out the tip at all the meals we’ve been to and they will tell you the answer is zero. But I actually started to feel a little self-conscious about being “that girl” who’s bad at math, so I decided to prove to everyone that I can figure out the tip without whipping out my iPhone calculator.
Guys, if I can do this trick, so can you. It really takes, like two seconds! So, let’s say the bill is $16.80. Move the decimal point over one to the left so the new number you have is $1.68. Now multiply by two. For me, to keep things really easy, I just round up the number, in this example that is $2.00, and multiply by two. So the tip is around $4.00. I don’t mind if the tip is slightly over 20% because waiters/waitresses work their butts off and are typically underpaid. Of course, if the service was truly terrible, then you can reevaluate this plan, but otherwise, this has totally changed my ability to calculate the tip! It’s really not so scary.
