Fall's Dress Code Is Black Tie: Shop Tuxedo-Inspired Trousers Now
August 1, 2012
Stella McCartney was onto something when she created the illusion dress for her Fall 2011 collection (and had Kate Winslet wear it to almost every red carpet appearance). The following spring shows, designers quickly adopted this magical detail (especially Monique Lhullier), placing the transforming side panels onto skirts, pants, and tops for an hourglass-effect. Our fall runways for this year were exactly the same, but instead of dresses getting the special style, trousers were the favorite to apply with side panels. Kelly Wearstler placed this detail in a skinny size, while 3.1 Phillip Lim, Rebecca Minkoff, and Commuun kept the trousers traditional with average-sized panels. However, it’s Ohne Titel who wins for innovativeness, where the trousers sported the same hourglass-like panels as dresses would, which means slimmer looking legs and a head-turning look.
