The Heavy Metal Trend - It Works, If You Use Sparingly
February 12, 2009
Some things are recession-proof, and new fashion trends are one of them as each season brings an opportunity to re-invent your closet. Yes, I’m choosing to ignore trends like the return of the UGG (which experts say is because women are seeking comfort during these challenging times) and am getting excited about ones like layered chains (which are so easy to wear and a little edgy— a “Take that! You stinkin’ recession” look).
Heavy chains and layered chains are appearing everywhere, from handbags and jewelry to clothing and shoes. A note of warning: A little goes a long way, especially if you don’t want to look like a punky kid who went shopping at Ace Hardware.
Forever 21’s chain trim tunic ($19.80) is a flirty and cheap way to test the trend, as the golden chains add a little glam to a simple black tank.
Dannijo’s layered chain necklace ($182) hits two trends at once with sophistication: the statement necklace and layered chains.
Recently featured in the NY Times, these Isabel Murant boots ($1,050 at Curve boutique in SoHo) are a fashionista’s exclamation point with suede and chains encircling the bootie. If you’re not ready to commit a grand to the trend, try these chain trim ankle boots ($10, were $50) which are available online.
