What's Going On With Chris Brown? His Latest Arrest, Explained.
August 31, 2016
Chris Brown is in trouble with the law again–this time, arrested on suspicion of assault after an hours-long stand-off with police at his LA home. Say, whaaat? If you’re having trouble following along with this bizarre story, here’s a breakdown of the events:
-A woman named Baylee Curran, who also happens to be Miss California Regional and an aspiring model/actress, is a guest at the home of the rapper on the evening of Monday, August 29th. Curran says she a business associate were there to discuss “future projects.”
-Sometime before 3 a.m., Curran told TMZ Live that she was admiring a diamond cross necklace that a supposed jeweler/merchant had brought to Chris’ home in a display suitcase, when Chris brandished a gun and said something along the lines of “I’m so sick of y’all people!” and demanded that they get away from the diamonds and leave the home.
-Curran and her friend said that when they went to leave they were held back by members of Chris’ team who demanded that they sign non-disclosure agreements in exchange for their phones back (which they had handed over when they entered the home).
-Curran says they refused to sign the NDA, and instead ran down the driveway and away from the house. It was at that time that neighbors noticed the commotion and the police were called. Curran says that a black Jeep came out of Chris’ driveway soon after the altercation, but that she crouched down behind another vehicle to hide.
-As the LAPD descended upon his home at 3:15AM, Chris posted a video to his Instagram account, which has since been removed, saying that he was “barricaded” inside his house and that the SWAT team was there. A local Fox news affiliate also posted a video of the event on Facebook Live–millions of people tuned in. For nearly 12 hours, Chris remained inside and was “uncooperative” with the police, according to a rep.
-The LAPD later entered the home with an arrest warrant around 1pm. Chris was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. After posting $250,000 bail, Chris was later released. According to his attorney Mark Geragos, “My client’s position is that we’re cooperating. There’s no truth to it [Curran’s claims], and we’re going to let it play out.”
