People were outraged to learn that Milli Vanilli created an entire career out of lip-syncing. But the truth is most of your favorite celebrities have lip-synced and gotten caught atleast once. Though many of them were born with beautiful, powerhouse voices, today’s singers are known to deliver performances that are less-than-live while a pre-recorded track plays in the background.
So, what gives? Why do celebs lip sync when they clearly have the talent or the time and resources to practice? When caught red-handed, said singers offer up a myriad of excuses. After Beyonce was caught lip-syncing at the 2013 Inauguration, she claimed the cold weather and lack of practice time left her with no choice but to lip sync. When Britney Spears bombed her comeback performance at the 2007 VMAs, people claimed she lip-synced because she felt uncomfortable in her revealing outfit, she was upset at host Sarah Silverman‘s jokes about her and she couldn’t live sing and dance at the same time.
No matter the explanation celebs offer, it always makes us cringe to know they picked up a mic and pretended to sing in front of an audience of adoring fans. Here are 10 lip-synching moments that we wish we could forget.
