Everybody close your eyes. Raise your hand if you can’t believe Mean Girls is officially a decade old today. Open them. Now, if we were in the gymnasium of North Shore High School, you’d probably see every arm in the air…yes, even Regina George‘s.
When the topic of the film’s 10th anniversary came up in our weekly editorial meeting, we were divided as to whether or not this is a big deal. For those of us born in the early 90’s (myself included), it’s huge. Cady Heron and the Plastics taught us millennials everything we know about girl world at the exact time in our lives when we needed to learn it–middle school. How else would we know that when someone says they love what you’re wearing they actually hate it? Or that our only Halloween costume options involve animal ears? OR that we should never ever admit to having bad breath because that is just waaaaay more gross than huge pores and bad nail beds? Okay, we learned some other important life lessons too, like respect, female empowerment and to look both ways before crossing the street (safety first!).
To honor this major anniversary, we could tell you how Tina Fey‘s excellent script influenced the way we speak and dress, where the stars are now, or which quotes from the movie are more underrated than others, but you’ve probably heard this all already. Instead, we rounded up a bunch of facts about Mean Girls that will totally blow your mind. Who was originally supposed to play which role, how Kevin G‘s infamous rap came about and more. Here are 10 facts for you and Glen Coco. You STILL go, Glen Coco!
*Side note: It’s kind of epic that the 10 year anniversary falls on a Wednesday. We hope you’re all wearing pink!
