Thick frames aren’t just for nerds anymore–thanks to brands like Warby Parker and Bobbi Brown (who is launching an eyewear line!), glasses are making a major comeback. Whether you’ve always rocked them or are just trying the look for the first time, you know that glasses have the potential to make a major fashion statement – or alternatively, have you looking like a total mess.

As a glasses wearer myself, I’m always paranoid that when I wear them, I look somehow lazy or unkempt — as if I slept late, and didn’t have time to put my contacts in. I then tend to overcompensate by wearing too much makeup, and looking like a clown. Desperate to find a balance between the two, I turned to Nordstrom Beauty Stylist Victoria Levy for some help. I asked Victoria if there are any makeup tips that are specific to gals who wear glasses–and the answer is yes! Click through the slideshow above for her tips about application, choosing colors, and more. But first, read Victoria’s reminder that the first rule is to have fun with them:

Too often women view their glasses as a hindrance to conventional beauty but in many ways they can provide an advantage. Glasses frame the eye area and add visual interest to the face.
