Just like you’ve seen in our fashion Taste Tests, beauty brands are doing the same thing and ripping eachother off like never before. Some of the pricier guys, like NARS, Dior, MAC, and Urban Decay, are being duped by smaller drugstore brands like NYX, e.l.f. and Wet n Wild–and we’ve noticed. But why are beauty knock-offs becoming so popular? The answer is actually pretty obvious.
Some cosmetics companies, like e.l.f. (the king of all beauty dupes) got smart and realized that though expensive products are really trendy, their target consumers (aka millennials) just can’t afford $40 bronzer or $25 mascara. Buy a NARS blush, and there goes the money you were going to spend on your Saturday night out. If you think about it like that, your trip to Sephora will get really scary really fast, but take head to the drugstore, and you can update your entire makeup collection for $50. Thanks, to these dupes, girls like me don’t have to choose between beauty and fun, because now we have the option to splurge on the name-brand expensive products or opt for a knock-off.
At first, I was a little skeptical about duped products. I thought things like, “What if the cheap version makes me break out?” or “What if the dupe doesn’t work as well?” which can be true. But, no need to worry. I’ve tried a TON of these less expensive products that I found on Pinterest and in magazines, and I’ll admit that some definitely didn’t work or weren’t even close in color to the originals, but in my search I did find some good ones. So, I’ve rounded up the 10 best beauty dupes I could find, and I promise they’re just like the originals if not BETTER.
