Every wedding site and publication has their own wedding checklist of dozens (if not hundreds) of wedding planning items you’ll need to tick off before the big day. You start with an engagement ring, and then you get engagement ring insurance, and then you start planning an engagement party, which has its own checklist, and then you start looking at wedding venues, picking a date, a wedding party, a photographer, and so on and so forth. But as you might’ve surmised by now, not everything on that checklist is absolutely essential. At the end of the day, all you need is an officiant, a marriage license, and your fiance.

Now, most brides are tad too sentimental to stop the party planning right there. Truth be told, if you’re reading this, you’re probably already way too invested in your wedding to start sacrificing large chunks of it for the sake of your sanity.
