We’ve been through the Golden Globes, SAG Awards and many more ceremonies honoring the achievements in film for 2013. But now it’s time for the big whammy. That’s right, we’re talking the 86th Academy Awards taking place this Sunday, March 2nd at 8:30 EST on ABC. Ellen DeGeneres is hosting for her second time, and we hope she brings her A-game. We can’t sit through another Seth MacFarlane fiasco. But even if the comedian goes with her usual corny routine (snoozefest), at least we have some exciting things to look out for:
–Jared Leto’s Hair: This is literally our #1 thing to look out for at the show. We were kinda bummed he didn’t sport the man bun at the SAG Awards, but who can deny the beauty of his gorgeous ombré locks. No matter what hair style he chooses (and it’s pretty much up in the air at this point), it’s going to look good.
–Whatever Lupita Nyong’o Wears: The 12 Years A Slave actress has been killing it on the red carpet this awards season. From her red Ralph Lauren cape gown to her stunning teal Gucci dress, anything this chick wears looks gorgeous. So we’re expecting something bright, colorful and flawless.
–Young Hollywood Presenters: Apparently, the under 35 set usually doesn’t get the invite to the award show unless they’re nominated. But this year, a bunch of the presenters are up-and-coming young stars, including Andrew Garfield, Emma Watson, Michael B. Jordan and Anna Kendrick. We’re guessing it’s to get those Millennial viewers. I mean, Zac Efron all dressed up in a tux? You got me Oscars, well played.
–That $55K Swag Bag: Whether Leo beats Matthew, or Lupita bests Jennifer, all the winners and loser will walk away with a gift bag full of goodies worth $55,000. What is inside this magical bag you ask? Well, there’s Chocolatines artisan chocolates, limited edition art from Gizara Arts and trips to Hawaii and Mexico. We’d say that’s better than some lame gold statue, am I right?
–Anything J.Law: Will she photobomb on the red carpet? Fall on stage? One thing’s for sure, we know she’ll be wearing Dior, Haute Couture Dior, to be exact, since she’s the brand’s spokeswoman. We don’t have much more details on her outfit (or antics) because that firecracker gal is preeeetty unpredictable.
–Ellen’s Saint Laurent Outfit: While she joked around talking to E! about her pre-show rituals (showering and combing her hair), the comedian got serious when asked about what she’ll be wearing at the ceremony. Viewers can expect to see her in multiple custom-made Saint Laurent outfits. Our bets are on some fancy girl tuxes.
-Celebrities Getting Drunk: Come on, how else are they gonna survive the 3-hour-plus long ceremony?! The official cocktails this year are Penicillin and Blood & Sand. Lucky for you, you can drink along with your fave celebs and not worry about having to present/accept an award on national TV! Here are the recipes.
–“Heroes” Theme: We didn’t know the Oscars had a theme, but this year’s is “Heroes,” which makes sense when you think about some of the Best Picture nominees: 12 Years A Slave, Dallas Buyers Club, Captain Phillips. But, um, we wouldn’t say Jordan Belfort deserves that title…
-Pharrell’s Hat: His song “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 is up for Best Original Song and he will perform it Sunday night. He’s already worn a brown, gray, green and red version of his now-famous Vivienne Westwood Mountain Hat, so here’s to hoping he tries a new color at the ceremony.
-Who’s Wearing Donna Karan: Because their dress was almost lost at LAX earlier this week. No joke. Just check out these tweets from DKNY‘s head PR girl.
-Johnny Weir And Tara Lipinski: We were so excited to see the duo hit the red carpet and interview Christian Bale (like, imagine), but it turns out Johnny and Tara will be pre-tapping a segment for Access Hollywood to air Monday morning. Hey, at least we’ll get to see some more of Johnny in fabulous clothes.
-DON’T expect to see any Tom Ford dresses. The designer told Jimmy Kimmel last night that he’s not a fan of dressing celebs for the red carpet. He called the outfits, “a bubble of Fifties Barbie clothes.” So that’s that.
