Being a mama ain’t easy. Motherhood tends to wear you down and turn you into the unkempt mess you never thought you’d be (or you hoped you’d never be). This is especially true for new moms right after the baby is born when all your routines, including your beauty routine and how much time you have to get dressed in the morning, are turned on their head. But after some time, as you start to get used to your new “reality,” you learn that the life you used to have can still be yours (with a few obvious adjustments). It’s not that hard to put on some makeup before you leave the house–or at least one layer of mascara–and you can still wear trends as long as they’re not totally impractical or uncomfortable (thank goodness for fashion sneakers).
Personally, I think being a mom is pretty chic in of itself: kids are a killer accessory, plus their clothing is arguably better than ours (hello Bonpoint). And with the right “tools”–a great eyelash curler, pair of sunglasses, perfect pair of jeans–you can even make it look easy. An iPad mini doubles as a tantrum reducer, and a pair of dark sunglasses shields the bags that appear after a sleepless night.
