The 125 Best New Beauty Launches Of 2023

I love the summertime, but it seriously interferes with my regular makeup routine. As a beauty addict, I love layering on products. However, as soon as the summer heat hits, my full face of makeup tends to melt right off. Sure, I could buy waterproof makeup, but what about all the makeup I already own? So instead of purchasing all new waterproof makeup, I found a few ways to make my current beauty look waterproof (or at the very least, water resistant). Here are some tips for waterproofing your makeup this summer:

Seal your brows with a clear wax pencil: This will prevent your eyebrow powder from migrating down your face. It will also help make your brows smudge proof. Try the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Primer ($21). This colorless brow gel works to seal in your brow color and keep your arches in place.

Use a setting spray: Setting spray is a guaranteed way to make any foundation waterproof. These lightweight sprays help prevent makeup from moving and sliding around your face. They also lock in moisture, keeping your skin refreshed throughout the day. I swear by Urban Decay’s All-Nighter Setting Spray ($30). It works with both liquid and mineral foundation formulas and prevents smudging and smearing.

Try a sealant: Yes, makeup sealant exists. Make Up For Ever Aqua Seal ($21) transforms powder formulas and pencils into smudge-proof, long lasting makeup. It instantly converts your favorite makeup products into waterproof formulas. Just mix a few drops with the product and apply.

Use cream formulas: Creams, gels, and stains generally have more staying power during the summer sun. Cream formulas sink into the skin, instead of just sitting on top of it like powders. Plus, these products won’t crumble on your skin. So stick to products like Benefit’s Benetint Cheak and Lip Stain ($30) and the Sun Beam Golden-Bronze Liquid Highlighter ($26).

Always use a primer: This step is nonnegotiable. Primers are the major key to making your makeup last in the heat. Right now, I’m a huge fan of the Hourglass Ambient Light Correcting Primer ($44). However, any primer is better than no primer if you want your makeup to stick.

Try a waterproof topcoat: You can make your favorite mascara waterproof in an instant. All you need to do is apply a waterproof topcoat. I recommend the BareMinerals Locked & Coated Waterproof Lash Topcoat ($12). Best of all, it won’t clump or change the look of your mascara.
