Whether you like it or not, bloggers and designers are paving the way for culottes to be the next big thing. In fact, they’re already here, and from the looks of the spring runways, they are here to stay. I should probably also mention that many of the styles on Net-A-Porter are already low in stock—I find that pretty telling. So you might want to get acquainted with the latest silhouette to be revived in the fashion world.
There’s really no reason to be apprehensive about wearing culottes—if you already wear midi skirts or cropped wide leg trousers, you’re basically already there. Plus they’re super versatile—the same pair of culottes can be dressed up or down, and you can pair them with just about anything. Thakoon’s pleated crepe culottes can be worn with a black knit and flats for daytime, and dressed up with a tucked in silky top for night. Michael Kors showed his denim culottes with a simple white button down, but the rule on these is basically the same as any denim bottom—anything goes.
If you’re concerned that culottes might make you appear wider, just do a form fitting top, that’ll balance things out. And if you’re issue is losing length, you’d be surprised how amazing culottes look with most heels. For the gals that think guys’ll shy away from a chick in culottes, pair them with a crop top to see how quickly they come running.
The bottom line is that culottes are not so bad—they’re actually kind’ve amazing. You should give em a shot, you won’t regret it.
