In fashion, it’s pretty commonplace to hear someone say, “I spent my rent money on these shoes.” Now I can appreciate an amazing pair of heels, but I’ve always laughed at this idea because, especially in N.Y.C., that’s a lot of money. But believe it or not, there’s no shortage of shoes–sandals, even!–that literally cost more than a month’s rent.

According to Zumper, the monthly rent for a one-bedroom in the affordable parts of New York City average out around  $1,850. What does that look like in shoes? We found 25 pairs that make your monthly rent look like chump change. Click through the slideshow to check them out, then tell us: if you had the money, would spend it on shoes like these?

Don’t miss The Outnet’s 5th anniversary collection, Reese Witherspoon’s fave jean jacket and printed shorts for spring.
