‘Tis the season… to get sick. While we’re hoping the annual cold and sore throat season skips over us, the least we can do is prepare for it. Plus most of the time, as long as a sore throat is fairly minimal, all you need are at-home remedies to feel as good as new again. Here are our recommendations for some at-home remedies to help soothe a sore throat instantly!
1. Gargle with warm salt water.
It’s gross, but it really does the trick. Pour yourself a glass of warm water and add a tablespoon of salt. Gargle for a minute and spit it out. This will help reduce your tonsils from swelling and irritation. Also, it’s important to note that you should be using warm water because the warmth helps ease the discomfort caused by a sore throat.
2. Drink tea, water and more.
It is super important to stay hydrated, especially when you’re sick. As noted earlier, hot drinks help to ease the pain and go down a bit more comfortably than cold drinks. Avoid ice cold water because that cold temperature will especially irritate your throat. The more water you drink, the more likely you are to help thin secretions that are causing the sore throat.
3. Sleep with a humidifier.
The warm or cold mist (depending on what setting feels most comfortable for you) will help your sore throat because you breathe in air that eases swollen air passages while also relieving hoarseness. However, be cautious while using your humidifier because you don’t want to wind up feeling uncomfortably cold or left with a damp room!
