There’s nothing sadder than being left high and dry once you get knocked up… by one of your favorite retailers, of course. I spend a good deal of my time searching for great finds for moms-to-be and there are certain stores that really should have maternity clothes–they’d have great ones–but for some reason, they just don’t.
Take Bloomies, for example. Aside from 2 pairs of maternity Spanx, a way-past-its-prime Juicy Couture velour hoodie and these Paige maternity jeans, Bloomingdales.com doesn’t offer anything for expectant moms. What’s up with that? Bloomingdales is one of the biggest department stores in the country. You can get a botanical leaf wine rest, but not a maternity dress?
Another store that really needs to enter the maternity market already: J. Crew. C’mon, they’d make the chicest maternity clothes. If you’re newly pregnant or your bump isn’t that big, you can probably still pull off some of the looser dresses like the one above, but really J. Crew–no love for moms-to-be?
And then there’s Piperlime, which got really close when they started selling diaper bags, but haven’t ventured any further into maternity territory. Please Piperlime.com, everything you already sell is so cute; if you started selling maternity clothes, you’d make life so much easier for expectant moms because no matter what they bought, it’d be stylish (and maybe even Rachel Zoe-approved!).
Alas, all we can do is wish these retailers get with the program and start looking out for all your moms-to-be like we do. In the meantime, check out the best maternity clothes, maternity jeans and pretty maternity dresses in our buying guides.
