3 Summer Beauty Mistakes That Are Aging You

Unless you are a 16-year-old girl trying to get into a college bar, most women are trying to look younger. We use countless creams and treatments to make our skin look youthful and fresh. While you might have your regular beauty routine down to a science, summer beauty is a whole different beast. You might be aging yourself with out even realizing it. Check out the 3 most common summer beauty mistakes that are aging you below:

Wearing too much self tanner: Applying too much self tanner or bronzer is a surefire way to age yourself. Self tanner can settle into your fine lines and enhance them, making you look older. To avoid this, press a damp makeup sponge into the areas where you have wrinkles to soak up any excess self tanner you may have applied. You also want to make sure your skin is prepped properly before applying self tanner. Patches of dry skin will give away your fake tan and make your skin look dull and splotchy. I recommend using Kate Somerville’s ExfoliKate Intensive Exfoliating Treatment ($85) to smooth and polish your skin. To exfoliate your body, try the Soap and Glory Flake Away Body Polish ($15). Not moisturizing regularly: It’s no-brainer that clear, hydrated skin looks more youthful. It’s also crucial to exfoliate. This removes dead, dull skin that can make your skin look old. It also helps improve the effectiveness of your moisturizer and other skincare products.

Not wearing sunscreen: One o the primary factors that contribute to wrinkled, spotted skin is exposure to the sun. You might think that this is a long term problem and that you don’t need to worry about now, but sun exposure can quickly cause your skin to deteriorate. This is the number one cause of maturation on the skin. It’s important to apply sunscreen on a daily basis, not just when your at the beach or pool. Don’t forget to apply SPF to your hands and neck, too. These areas often show signs of aging first.
