I cannot stand bare white walls. It doesn’t feel warm and cozy to be in a room with nothing on the walls. When living in a dorm room, and some apartments, you aren’t allowed to paint the walls. Some people also choose not to paint because it costs money and is time-consuming. How do you decorate walls without using paint, though? Here are four simple ways to add color and design to your walls without having to lift a paintbrush.
1. Mirrors. This might be one of my favorite ways to decorate a plain wall. Obviously, you can’t be afraid to look in a mirror as the whole wall will be full of them. My grandma lives in an apartment complex and they can do limited things design wise, so she found all of these mirrors from various places and hung them on a wall in her dining room. I know the idea sounds like it would be too much, but it honestly comes out looking really cool. Collect mirrors of different shapes and sizes, frame them and hang them on the wall!
2. Empty picture frames. Another really common way to take up space on a wall is by using empty picture frames. Again, find frames of different shapes and sizes and hang them in an organized fashion. It looks nice when a few frames contain pictures and the rest are left empty.
3. Decals. I loved wall decals while I was college because they are quick and easy. Plus, they are easy to remove and don’t leave behind any residue. There are so many different varieties of decals to choose from so find whatever suits your interest and stick them up on the walls.
4. Tapestries. These are so easy to hang and will add tons of color to your walls. Again, perfect for dorm rooms because they leave no mess. Urban Outfitters sells really pretty tapestries that will seriously transform any room.
Honestly, the possibilities of wall decor are endless. It just takes a little creativity…and Pinterest.
