4 Ways To Whiten Your Teeth At Home
June 9, 2015
Okay, let’s face it…everyone stares at your teeth. It’s just one of those things people notice. I do, anyway. Yellow teeth aren’t exactly a turn on, but luckily there are ways to solve that problem. Of course, you can use whitening strips but those can be expensive. Here are four home remedies you can try the next time you want to brighten up your smile. They don’t call them pearly whites for nothing!
Oil pulling. If you haven’t heard by now, oil pulling has amazing health benefits. The bacteria that’s all up in your mouth gets “stuck” in the oil and dissolves into it. Oil pulling removes toxins as well, and helps whiten your teeth in the process. Take a tablespoon of coconut oil and swish it around in your mouth for 15-20 min.
Baking soda and peroxide. Mix together baking soda and peroxide until it forms a paste. Note: This method may be a little harsh for those with sensitive teeth and/or gums. Instead of brushing the paste on, use your finger to apply onto your teeth, let it sit for 1-2 min and then brush with regular toothpaste.
Apple cider vinegar. Much like oil pulling, apple cider vinegar (ACV) has many health benefits. Use organic ACV (try Bragg’s) to whiten your teeth by diluting it with water and gargle in your mouth. It’s important to realize that ACV is very acidic on its own, so you must dilute it with water or it can be harmful to the enamel on your teeth.
Oranges and strawberries. Oranges contain citrus, which can aid the breakdown of tooth enamel, causing whiter teeth. Strawberries contain malic acid, a natural astringent that helps with the discoloration of teeth.
