6 Things To Keep In Mind When Buying A Pair Of Overalls

Let’s bring back one of the best 90s trends, shall we? I’m talking overalls! You’ve probably worn a pair of overalls once in your life, or, uh, maybe you were forced. Either way, it’s safe to say the overall trend is totally happening right now and it’s kind of amazing. Overalls are a tricky fashion trend because if they aren’t styled correctly, you can look sort of like a lumberjack or like you just walked off a farm. Don’t get me wrong, if that’s the look you are going for then all the power to you. Keep on reading to see how to wear overalls like the ultimate fashionista.

Stripes are your best friend.

For some reason, stripes paired with overalls just work. Thin stripes or thick stripes, it makes no matter! You’ll definitely have a preppy, sailor vibe goin’ on but there’s nothing wrong with that.

Fit is super important.

The fit of your overalls is really going to make or break your entire look. There are a ton of different styles to choose from but you just have to find what’s comfortable and works for your body type. You don’t want the crotch area to have too much room that it looks baggy and you most definitely don’t want that area to be too tight that it’s pulling. It’s also good to look for a pair of overalls that has adjustable straps so you can customize the fit according to your body. Don’t be afraid to play around with unique silhouettes either! Try a tapered leg or cropped leg, skirt or shorts and whatever else fits your fancy.

Mix textures and patterns.

We all know so much can be done with denim, so think of your overalls like a pair of your favorite jeans. Try wearing a lace top or patterned tee underneath for an extra pop of something extra. A busy pattern will be subdued by your overalls so there is no such thing as “too much.” Floral patterns and lace will add a girly touch to a distressed pair of overalls.

Try a crop top.

Yes, you can pull it off. In fact, if you’ve ever hesitated before then this is the best time to try a crop top. Why? Because most of your midriff will be hidden by your overalls. The only bit of skin that will be showing is on the sides.

It’s ok to layer.

Overalls may seem like that an outfit in itself, but wearing a blazer or cardigan is totally acceptable. It’ll pull your entire outfit together.

Stay away from “kid” accessories.

It’s probably not the best idea to wear bows in your hair or pigtails when wearing overalls. You don’t want to have yourself looking like a giant kid. Stick with sleek, minimalistic accessories like ear cuffs, bucket bags and collar necklaces.

Keep all these tips in mind when searching for your next (or first!) pair of overalls. You can pull off any style as long as you have the confidence!
