7 Things We Can't Wait To See At The 2016 Oscars

The 88th Academy Awards (or Oscars, if you’re fancy like that) are taking place this Sunday, February 28th at 8:30PM EST on ABC. Chris Rock is set to host and he’s always a good time. Besides looking out for something to top Chris Pine‘s single, glorious tear that he shed at last year’s ceremony, here are 7 things to watch for:

1) The fashion

Alicia Vikander and Brie Larson are two nominees who have changed the red carpet fashion game. Really looking forward to seeing what these two gals wear. And let’s not forget Tom Hardy for the dudes (or really the ladies, I should say). The Revenant actor never wears a typical award show men’s look. He goes for three-piece suits and nifty accessories, like a pocket watch. Or maybe he’ll bring a dog. Who knows! Just take a look at this gorgeous collage of Tom’s most recent outfits.

Alicia is in custom Disney… we mean Louis Vuitton.

2) New thank-you scroll

The show’s producers came up with an idea to keep the thank you speeches short and sweet. This year, nominees were able to submit a list in advance of people they would like to thank should they win. The list will scroll across the bottom of the screen while the winners take the 45 seconds (or so) to do something special with their acceptance speech.

This new addition to the show format is great for a couple of reasons. First, the winners literally have no excuse to forget to thank anyone. Second, the people who are thanked actually have a record of it. Finally, we’re hoping some winners have fun with this tool, so make sure to keep an eye on the scroll!

3) Diverse presenters

The #OscarsSoWhite controversy has caused the show’s producers to enlist a diverse group of presenters. Kevin Hart, Priyanka Chopra and Sofia Vergara are just a few of the actors slated to hand out trophies on Sunday. Oh, and Vice President Joe Biden will be there…which is random. Check out a full list of presenters here.

4) Jacob Tremblay presenting

Speaking of presenters, 9-year-old Room star Jacob Tremblay will take the stage. Last time he did that was at the Critics’ Choice Awards where he melted everyone’s hearts. Also, this kid has just been killing it this awards season. He’s racked up pictures with some of the biggest stars in the biz:

And he’s been living his best life at the after parties:

5) Musical performances

Three of the five nominees for Best Original Song will get to perform and they are some of the biggest names in pop music. The Weeknd will perform “Earned It” from Fifty Shades of Grey, Sam Smith will sing “Writing’s On The Wall” from Spectre and Lady Gaga will belt out “Til It Happens To You” from the documentary The Hunting Ground. The Academy def made a solid choice picking these artists to take the stage. Trying to get the younger audience??

Also, David Grohl from The Foo Fighters will perform a secret rock and roll number. *Mysterious*

Crossing my fingers that The Weeknd and Bella Hadid will be there together so they can slay the red carpet again. MAKE IT HAPPEN, ACADEMY.

6) Blinged-out stage

According to USA Today, the Oscars stage will be blinged-out with 200,000 Swarovski crystals. The piece de resistance weighs more than 20,000 pounds–gives a whole new meaning to dripping in diamonds, huh?

I wish there was a way to just fast-forward to the Best Actor reveal because that’s really why I’m watching this shindig. After six nominations, Leonardo DiCaprio is predicted to finally take home his first Oscar ever. He’s a shoe-in for the Best Actor win since he won the category at every other major award show this season. But, hopefully, we’re not totally jinxing him by saying this…
