Believe it or not, you can use olive oil for more than just cooking. It’s filled with antioxidants, vitamin E, K, and even minerals like iron, calcium, potassium, and sodium. Here are 8 things you can do with olive oil outside of the kitchen:
1. Deep conditioning
Hair treatments can be extremely expensive, so why spend the money when you have the ingredients right at your own home? If you hair is drier than the desert, heat 1/2 cup of olive oil (not to a boil), and then liberally apply it to your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic grocery bag then wrap it with a towel. Keep it in for 45 minutes then thoroughly rinse your head and shampoo.
2. Acne solution
Mix together 4 tablespoons of salt with 3 tablespoons of olive oil to make a paste. Pour the mixture into your hands and work it around your face. Leave it on for a minute or two then rinse it off with warm water and some soap. Apply the mixture daily for one week, then cut back to two or three times a week. The salt exfoliates your skin and cleans out your pores, while olive oil restores the natural oil in your skin.
3. Shaving cream substitute
Running out of shaving cream won’t be a problem anymore, as long as there is olive oil in your cabinet! Using olive oil instead of soap is much more beneficial. While soap can be rough on your skin, olive oil moisturizes while making it easier for the blade to glide.
4. Paint remover
No matter what, paint always gets everywhere. sometimes even in your hair! Feel like you’ve showered a 100 times since you painted but can’t get the paint out of your hair? Well, all you need is a cotton ball and some olive oil. Gently rub the olive oil into your hair and the paint will be gone!
5. Eye cream
No more spending hundreds of dollars on preserving your younger years. Yes, you can use olive oil as an eye cream. The oil nourishes the tender skin around your eyes and softens wrinkles. Gently dab some olive oil under your eyes before bed or in the morning. Keep your olive oil eye cream in the fridge and enjoy refreshing, vitamin filled treatment.
6. Nail strengthening
Olive oil can strengthen your nails as well. Give them a room temperature olive oil bath for about 5 to 10 minutes once or twice a week, and your nails will be strong, shiny and healthy!
Italian actress, Sophia Loren, always says her favorite beauty secret is her love for oil baths! The actress adds 5 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil to her bath. This simple beauty trick can leave your skin feeling soft and smooth!
8. Makeup remover
Using olive oil is not only good for your skin, it also makes for a gentle makeup remover! Apply a little bit of olive oil on a cotton ball and gently wipe away all the makeup from your face. If you have heavy makeup on, remove it by massaging olive oil all over your face first, and then wipe it off with a washcloth saturated with warm water. Repeat a couple of times if necessary. Rinse your face with warm water, then splash with cold water. The cold water will help stimulate the blood circulation and close pores.
