There’s no denying that the Grammys are the best show of awards season. It’s the only place where Lady Gaga can be carried down the red carpet inside a giant egg and Queen Latifah can officiate the weddings of 34 couples. Need we say more? So what can we expect at the 2015 ceremony? Lots of shenanigans that’s for sure. But more importantly, who will take home the biggest honors of the night? Will Beyonce finally win Album of the Year? Can Sam Smith best Taylor Swift for Record of the Year? Make sure to tune in to CBS this Sunday at 8PM to watch what goes down. Here are 8 things to look out for at the 57th annual Grammy Awards:
1) Mr. West is in the building
After a six year hiatus, Kanye West is returning to the Grammys. He will debut a “never-before-seen solo performance,” according to Time Magazine, as well as perform “FourFiveSeconds” with his new clique, Rihanna and Paul McCartney. But what is most important is that he will be in the same room as Taylor Swift…
2) Beyonce makin’ history
With six nominations this year, Beyonce is now the most nominated woman in Grammy history! She is also tied with Adele for most wins by a female artist. Will she break this record by taking home more awards? It looks veeeery likely, especially since she is THE favorite for Album of the Year (even Sam Smith said he’d hand over his potential trophy to Queen B).
3) The outfits
Where do we even begin? Some of the most iconic award show looks of all time have come from the Grammys. There’s the good (Rihanna’s Alaia gown), the bad (Nicki Minaj’s nun look) and the unforgettable (J.Lo’s plunging Versace dress). With stars like Iggy Azalea, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga showing up this year, we’re expecting some major fashion moments.
4) The collabs
Every year, random combinations of musical artists take the stage at the Grammys. And every year, we are baffled by the pairings. This year, the strangest collab has to be Ed Sheeran, Herbie Hancock, John Mayer and Questlove. Also look out for a Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett performance. One is known for over-the-top stage theatrics and one is not. We’ll let ya figure this one out.
5) Pharrell’s outfit
The words “Pharrell” and “hat” become synonymous last year when the singer/producer wore his infamous Vivienne Westwood topper to the Grammys. It got it’s own Twitter handle, became one of eBay’s top selling items of 2014 and spawned countless Internet memes. Here’s hoping he shows up in something Halloween costume-worthy this year.
6) The Voice takeover
Speaking of Pharrell, all the judges from last season’s The Voice will be in attendance. Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani are set to perform together (maybe the least random collab?) and Blake Shelton‘s wife, Miranda Lambert, is up for four awards. No doubt he’ll be there in support of his romance and bromance.
7) Katy Perry’s performance
The only thing we have to say about this is BRING IN THE DANCING SHARKS. (Please read this sentence like Amanda Bynes in The Amanda Show when she asks the Bailiff to “Bring in the dancing lobsters.”)
8) Best new artist winner
Expect Sam Smith to walk out of the show holding a bunch of gramophones, but this might not be one of them. Though he is the favorite in this category, we are seriously pulling for the sister trio Haim to win. Their debut album, Days Are Gone is a MUST listen. No, really. I don’t remember the last time I knew and liked every single song on an album (probably No Strings Attached circa 2000). These girls deserve the highest recognition in their industry, and that is The Best New Artist title.
