A Find: French macaroons make great holiday gifts. Ooh la la.
November 8, 2005
Can you believe it’s fall already?! That means holiday parties will begin soon. You’ll need a great dessert or hostess gift or just something to make guests ooh and ahh. French macaroons are the answer. They are not, I repeat, not, the coconut confections most of us are used to. Although delicious, coconut macaroons are totally different. French macaroons are little cakes made of ground almonds, egg whites and sugar. They are slightly crispy on the outside but chewy and creamy on the inside. They are often split in half and filled with any number of flavored creams, jams or even ice cream. Actually, I first tried these macaroons at Restaurant Gary Danko in San Francisco and have been on a quest to find them everywhere I’ve gone since, from Las Vegas to London. They aren’t pretty to look at and they’re definitely not a fashion or beauty find, but they are so wonderful to eat! Find macaroons at paul.fr and treat your guests or yourself.
