Why: The average “it bag†lasts just about as long as Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock. It’s overexposed, splashed across every celebrity weekly, and then tossed aside as soon as Paris Hilton hops on the next flavor of the week. It’s kind of sad actually. As soon as you get your eager little paws on the bag du jour, it’s already so passé, and you’re stuck with an incredibly pricey laundry bag – that you wouldn’t be caught dead carrying to a public Laundromat. Designer Joy Gryson, who cut her teeth working with Calvin Klein, Coach, and Marc Jacobs, just introduced a line of handbags that are so stylish, I’m almost tempted to call them “it bagsâ€, but that would be an insult to Joy, who proudly describes the line as “the anti-it bag,†and goes on to explain that “Our designs are meant to be timeless, classic and impenetrable to easy trend definitions.”
The Italian leather Rachel Style Pocket Shoulder Bag features brass hardware, suede lining, and wonderful braided trim detail, and Gryson’s take on the hobo bag is so inspired, I actually want to light a fire in a garbage can.
