Sava Spa may be located in Washington Heights, at the northern tip of Manhattan, but it’s more than worth the trip up there. Founder Joanna Czech previously catered only to celebrities–like Uma Thurman, Christy Turlington and Liam Neeson– in their homes, but at Sava she’s offering her famous facials to the rest of us in a soft, minimally elegant space. After just one visit, it’s easy to see why she’s become a celeb favorite; her REN facial (Sava is the only spa in the country to use REN products for facials) is the ultimate in pampering. Utilizing the Japanese massage technique Ko Bi Do to stimulate blood flow in the neck and face, the facial has minimal extractions for an amazingly relaxing experience. Czech’s technique is somehow both light and strong, and I often found myself wanting to open my eyes just to see how her amazing fingers were capable of such acrobatics. And best of all, when I did open my eyes, my face was dewy clean and fresh. Washington Heights? I’d go all the way to Coney Island for this treatment. Find out more about Sava at savaspa.com.
