What: HP Photosmart R927 digital camera

Why: Photophobes, rejoice! Someone’s finally come up with the technology to make you look thinner in pictures. Hewlett Packard isn’t dishing too much on how the new R927 makes photo subjects go from stocky to svelte; all they’ll say is that they’ve beefed up their Real Life technologies features, and that the camera “intelligently” removes pixels from the center of a frame and expands details at the frame’s edges (hey, that’s enough explanation for us!) Shutterbugs will be just as pleased as their subjects with the masterpieces this cam turns out. The R927 is about the size of a deck of cards, but the enormous 3-inch LCD display allows for tons of creative control, and the 8 megapixels ensure a sharp shot. Neophyte photogs will benefit from the camera’s Instant Image Advice system, which automatically scans images and brings up a screen with advice on how to make the shot perfect. Plus, there’s instant red-eye reduction and tons of fun art effects you can add to photos right in the camera, no PC necessary. This throws a whole new twist into internet dating, now you really can’t trust those profile photos…
