A Good Question: Wraps, Cardigans and Coverage for Sundresses
May 23, 2007
Question: I have some adorable and expensive sleeveless things which are great for picnics and croquet, but everywhere else in summer is chilled to 60 degrees. I am utterly freezing at restaurants, indoor wedding receptions, plays, work. Please recommend some cute and/or elegant sweaters or other arm warmers that look spring/summery. The cotton sweaters I’ve seen always look a bit shapeless or stretched out or something. I am petite, so I don’t want to look swallowed, bundled up or like I’m wearing a robe.
Answer: Absolutely no problem. The trick to coverage for petites is to watch your proportions. You need to keep the silhouette closer to the body and above the waist to give the illusion of a longer torso.
First, we start with a very adorable sundress by Nicole Miller. It’s gorgeous and absolutely screaming for a garden party. Let’s cover it up so you can navigate the dress code (and sub-zero temperatures.)
Flirty: This beautiful Lilly Pulitzer Flora Cardigan would be ideal. The pop of color works perfectly with the dress and it’s enough to keep you warm without looking woolen.
Conservative: Try the Coffee Shop Washed Shrug Jacket. The rounded-collar, single-button jacket is professional and polished.
Fashionista: Unleash your inner celebutante with Brandon Thomas’ Washed Lambskin jacket. Lambskin will breathe so you don’t melt into a puddle but it’ll keep you warm and will look incredibly chic.
Now, go be gorgeous!
