In today’s “It’s About Time” news, Abercrombie & Fitch is launching plus-size clothing. Yes, you read that right. The same brand whose CEO Mike Jeffries reportedly said he doesn’t want “larger people shopping in his store” will now carry beyond a size 10. Has Jeffries finally realized that “cool kids” come in all shapes and sizes?
Not exactly. According to The Frisky, it’s not diversity they’re after, but sales. The company’s stock prices are decreasing so they’re hoping that plus-size merchandise will help them increase revenue. Anyone else completely disgusted?
Jeffries probably still believes plus-size consumers aren’t as “hot” as his “core customers,” but they are good enough to pull his brand out of a financial slump. Thanks anyway but we’ll be keeping our money in our pockets. Call us when the brand has a new CEO, features plus size models in advertisements and gets rid of that ridiculous employee hair policy.
