Amazon Just Launched 'Handmade', Changed Everything
October 13, 2015
Amazon launched a new vertical last week called Handmade at Amazon. It sells handcrafted goods via e-commerce, just like Etsy.
With the unveiling of this new addition, Amazon shared that more than 80,000 products are featured from approximately 5,000 artisans in over 60 countries! The categories for Handmade at Amazon include jewelry, home, kitchen, artwork, stationery, and furniture.
Peter Faricy, VP for Amazon Marketplace, explains the inspiration behind Handmade at Amazon, “Knowing an item has a unique story behind it creates a personal experience that customers have told us makes owning handmade items special. Handmade at Amazon offers customers more than 80,000 quality handcrafted items from around the world, and over 30 percent can be personalized by artisans to delight customers.”
This is especially great news for women, considering women now make up over 86% of sellers on Etsy! Oh yeah, and let’s not forget that women are now launching businesses at a faster rate than men… NBD. So not only is Handmade at Amazon a game changer, but we have to love how much it will also benefit businesswomen around the world.
