A recent article from The New York Times claims that young women are putting themselves before fashion and beauty standards. There’s a first. Instead of shopping to make someone else happy, this younger generation is more interested in what makes them feel comfortable.
The Times reports that thong sales decreased by 7% over the past year, whereas the sales of full underwear (aka granny panties) were up by 17%. The Huffington Post declares this is more than women dressing for themselves. They state, “…a change in the way we wear underwear could be signaling a change in our perception of what is — and is not — beautiful.”
Kerry O’Brien, founder and designer at Commando, a brand known for comfortable, seamless underwear, told Huffington Post, “When I’m designing new styles, I never think ‘Will a man find this sexy?’ I think about what women want to wear and I create styles that will gently hug her body and make her feel fabulous. No matter what style she prefers, women should love their underwear and their underwear should love them back.”
It’s nice to know that women are not being picked apart and bothered by current beauty standards. If you wear what makes you feel comfortable, you’ll be guaranteed to feel your most beautiful.
