We saw them creeping on the runways for Spring 2012, and we all wondered the science behind such a flattering piece of fabric known as the peplum. Seriously, this type of clothing can create a curvy waistline in seconds. Then February rolled around, and fall was on our minds (actually, more like summer—New York winters are brutal!), and during those shows, designers were so pleased with the magical peplum that they were in almost every other collection in the US. But leave it to the masters in Milan and Paris, such as Bottega Veneta and Lanvin, who transformed this popular overskirt into an elegantly refined fashion staple, rather than some sort of trendy fashion dare. While it may have felt like a case of deja vu the second time around, that clearly proves that peplums are a mainstay in your wardrobe. So try it out on your skirt, top, jacket, or dress. Don’t say we didn’t tell you so!
