I got a facial at Phyto Universe recently–in between treatments, I take to my face on my own, poking and prodding, even though I know I shouldn’t. After leaving the spa, I realized my face never looks as bad after a facial as it does when I take things into my own hands.
So here’s a little guide to the best products to use after you commit the cardinal dermatological sin of picking at your own face–do them at home and sooth your splotchy face in no time.
1. Tone, to clean skin and help close pores. The facialist used Lierac Refreshing Cleansing Milk, which didn’t sting or burn, but has grapefruit and other extracts to purify skin.
2. Ice, To close pores, and to reduce inflammation. Lay a cotton pad over your skin, and rub the ice on that – less “that’s so cold it burns,” more “wow, that’s surprisingly soothing.”
3. Mask If you’re the mask type, a calming one will help you look less red and splotchy. Origins’ Plantidote mask has natural ingredients – black bamboo leaf, ginger, tumeric – to help the process along.
