Back in July, we teased Twitter’s “Buy” button, but we didn’t know when or how it would actually launch. But yesterday, we got our answer. On September 8, the buy button made its debut on tweets by Pharrell Williams, Eminem, Demi Lavato, Home Depot and Burberry as the sole fashion brand involved in the initial test group. 9/11 Day will also join the group in a couple days. Nathan Hubbard, head of commerce at Twitter, told WWD, that they’re testing with Burberry to set an example for other fashion brands to follow.
Immediately following Burberry’s spring presentation during London Fashion Week on September 15, tweeters will be able to purchase nail polish straight from the runway. And later, Burberry’s fragrances will be available for purchase, too. But what we really want to know is when we’ll be able to buy Burberry’s handpainted canvas bags on Twitter. It seems like it’s only a matter of time.
Twitter has actually made the “Buy” option so easy to use, that this may be bad news for the bank accounts of social media addicts and shopoholics like me. When a first-time user (aka. you) clicks on the “Buy” button you will be asked to enter your billing and shipping information, which is securley stored by Twitter. After you provide this information once, you’ll never have to input it again. All you’ll have to do is hit “Buy” on the tweeted product that you’re interested in and confirm your order. It’s as easy as that.
