Barbie Gets (Another) Designer Makeover--And We Kind of Want Her Floral Dress

Last week, Christian Louboutin’s Barbie collaboration sold out in a day–now, Mattel is continuing the success–launching a limited edition vintage-looking Barbie today at Dover Street Market in London for $350, which we hear is now also sold out.  Barbie’s custom floral Commes de Garcons dress was designed by Rei Kawakubo, founder of the brand. We have to say, we’re fans.

We never really had the guts (or the budget) to wear Commes de Garcons before, but Barbie was born to help girls everywhere realize their dreams, right? So maybe we’ll take a cue from the first style icon. We can channel her rule-breaking holiday floral dress look with a little twist–(we don’t want to look exactly like Barbie). Here are our top three picks:

Cynthia Steffe floral red and white dress

1. This Cynthia Steffe strapless party dress is effortless glamour–with a playful (and colorful) twist we can vouch for. Layer on a big necklace and a denim jacket, and go.

Eli Tahari floral dress

2. This Eli Tahari splashy turquoise and navy floral patterned dress is updated to instant sophistication when paired with an edgy belt and sky-high heels.

Lauren by Ralph Lauren dress

3. The black background on Lauren by Ralph Lauren’s vibrant purple v-neck party dress makes it sophisticated, not too girly-looking. Pull on a blazer, tights, and booties and you’ve got yourself an outfit.

See our buying guides for more on sweaters, tights and faux fur vests to layer over these playful party dresses–and shapewear to hide under. And in the spirit of Barbie, check out our Sold Out Guide – your guide to the 21 items that are selling out fast this holiday.
