Have you seen Barbie’s latest makeover? Thanks to the Italian fashion brand, Tokidoki, the iconic doll is rocking a pink bob, leopard print leggings, and a skull-heart sweater. Oh, and in case you missed it, she’s got some serious ink tattooed on her left arm and across her chest. Yes, Tokidoki Barbie is tatted up.
Harmless fashion fun or bad influence? Me? I actually like her look. The haircut is fabulous, and the clothes are cute. Hey, she’s wearing more clothes than some of her skimpy bikini outfits, and it’s a nice change from the princess look! Now the tattoos? Yeah, Mattel could have done without or at least given parents the option to remove them.
Why? It’s not because I’m against tattoos. I know tons of wonderful parents who have tattoos with great kids…who aren’t begging for tattoos like some critics are suggesting. It’s simply because I don’t want my daughter to get any funny ideas. She’s really into art and drawing right now, and if she sees Barbie with all the pretty pictures on her body, I guarantee she’ll start drawing on herself or her other dolls the second I’m not looking.
But look, this limited-edition doll is designed primarily for the adult doll collector, and at $50 a pop, it’s a little expensive for little girls anyway. Besides, she’s already sold out at most places so if you do have a problem with her, don’t worry. She’s probably not coming over any time soon.
What do you think of Tokidoki Barbie. Would you let your daughter play with her? Sound off in the comments below.
