Beauty Find: Tinted Moisturizers, Because Even Halle Berry Doesn't Wake Up Glowing
January 25, 2008
I remember when I was young and foolish (it wasn't so long ago). I believed my youthful, religiously moisturized skin was naturally luminous, and so never saw the need for foundation. That makeup omission may have been okay back then, but these days I know better. I know that no matter how lovely your complexion is, a little smoothing and evening-out is an absolute must in the morning. (I mean, let's be honest here, even Halle Berry doesn't wake up glowing.) That's why I love the new tinted moisturizers. When various versions of this double-action product first came out a while back, I doubted them–with my very dry skin, I need serious moisture in the mornings, and they didn't do the trick. But now tinted moisturizers effectively accomplish three things at once: moisturizing your skin, protecting it from the sun, and smoothing it with a sheer foundation that's perfect for the daytime.
Why: I was bowled over by the dewey finish and long-lasting moisturizer of both these products, so I went online to see what other women thought of them. Their reviews: "I think I'm in love!" (Shiseido); "This is all I use!" (Shiseido); "It makes your skin glow!" (Becca); and "I LOVE it!" (Becca). Hmmph. That doesn't help you decide between them, does it? The truth is, if you want a gorgeous complexion that looks naturally smooth and healthy, you can't go wrong with either of these moisturizers. Consider color, though. Shiseido comes in only three shades (light, medium, and deep) – the darkest of which is merely mediterranean – while Becca boasts 15 choices and can match any skin tone. Finally, both lotions protect your skin from the sun (Shiseido has SPF 15 and Becca SPF 25) which any good girl knows is the most important thing of all.
