From the man who brought Gucci back from an equine dead, as well as a requisitely sexy breath of fresh air to Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche, Tom Ford now does Estee Lauder too. That’s right, the fashion superstar now dabbles in beauty, launching his Tom Ford for Estee Lauder Youth Dew Amber Nude line this holiday season.
Starting with a revamp of the Lauder classic fragrance Youth Dew, Ford created his Youth Dew Amber Nude. The rest of the collection—including an Amber Nude Limited Edition Makeup Collection—is exclusive to this holiday season (but the fragrance is not)… So get ‘em while they’re hot. A sunglasses line is due to launch next, and a stand-alone Tom Ford beauty brand is expected to be concrete by then end of 2006. All of this, of course, in addition to a spring launch of Azuree– which is his personal twist on Lauder’s iconic Estee blue packaging.
In the meanwhile, however, stick to the makeup and perfume. The rest has yet to come. Despite their overtly sexed (Ford hired porn actors for the sunglasses shoot) ads, the line itself is anything but: All were made to make good on what nature gave you. Neutral, of course, is another way of spinning the word nude.
Ford’s launch party for the line coincided with that of the opening of the new Fendi store in the first week of November. All in attendance celebrated, well, nudity for starters… but also Ford’s free-ranging sex appeal. Everybody gooshed over their favorite crush whilst sipping amber martinis and rubbing shoulders with the likes of Aerin Lauder, Heatherette’s Traver Rains and Richie Rich, and supermodel Maggie Rizer.
