Black Friday Horror Stories--Aka, Why You Should Shop Online This Year

Wal-Mart is the country's worst culprit when it comes to Black Friday danger. People have been pepper spayed, people have been shot and, worse, people have died. Jdimytai Damour, a 34-year-old temporary holiday worker, was thrown back when the glass doors holding off the mob outside shattered. The mob rushed in and he was trampled in the stampede. Speaking of pepper spray, it seems to be the choice defense mechanism for angsty Black Friday shoppers. The worst incident on record involves a woman at Wal-Mart (of course) and an argument over video games. She pepper sprayed around 20 of her fellow shoppers--children included! Worse, she was able to get the game and checkout without getting caught. She later turned herself in. Get the full story here. [Photo: Coral Springs Talk]

Lanessa Lattimore woke up late on this particular Black Friday, but she had big plans for shopping at Toys R Us and no line was going to ruin that. When she got to the store, she jumped more than 100 people and when she was confronted, threatened to shoot. No gun was found at the scene. Her comment on the matter? "I'm not a violent person, but police charged me with disorderly conduct." Well, yeah. Get the full story here. [Photo: bclinesmith]

Up in the Bronx, 500 Toys R Us shopping carts went missing on Black Friday thanks to a weird shopping cart heist that continued throughout the holiday season. Every single cart was stolen and shoppers were forced to carry their items to checkout. Get the full story here. [Photo: Daniel R. Blume]

I'm going to attribute this one to a "mob mentality" because it is seriously disheartening that a waffle maker would ever cause a riot, even on Black Friday. But oh, it did. Leslie Knope would be proud--and then she would never work in politics again. Watch it here. [Photo: Jonnathan McIntosh]

In 2009, at 8:30 a.m. in Queens, NY, a 64-year-old man was shot in a parking lot while carrying a flat-screen TV. The culprits tried to take off with the man's new purchase, but couldn't fit it in their car. They then fled. Daiquan Ellerby was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery, with gunshot wounds in his stomach. He later passed away from his injuries. Get the full story here. [Photo: Lian Chang]

It isn't just those at Wal-Mart and Toys R Us that participate in outlandish Black Friday ridicululousness. No, even those at this Urban Outfitters trampled theft detectors and rammed closed doors right before the store opened. All of this just proving that it doesn't matter who you are or where you shop, Black Friday can get the better of you. Watch it here. [Photo: Richard Cocks]

Another terrible story comes from West Virginia where in a Target, a man was found dead in the electronics department, shoppers stepping over his body to get their goods. Witnesses testimonies about the event don't really match, though. One woman says shoppers kept shopping and another says she didn't see anyone being "heartless." Either way, it's a frightening tale. At a Best Buy in Augusta Georgia, Tracey Attaway attempted to steal a laptop and was caught on camera doing so. When approached by store employees, he became irate and ran out of the store. A Marine volunteer working for Toy for Tots outside the store tried to stop the man, and ended up with a stab wound. Thankfully the wound wasn't life threatening, and Attaway was charged with aggravated assault. Get the full story here. [Photo: Klipshfan]
