Botox Mom Was All a Hoax--But Does That Make It Any Better?
May 19, 2011
Apparently Kerry Campbell, whose real name is Sheila Upton, was paid by The Sun to pretend she gave her daughter Botox for a story. She was paid $200. When GMA saw the story in The Sun, they offered Campbell/Upton even more money to tell her story on TV.
I will admit, I am relieved to find out this woman’s poor daughter wasn’t harmed in the process of this big scheme. But let’s think about this for a minute. If we thought it was bad parenting for her to teach her daughter beauty before safety, what about teaching her daughter it’s totally okay to lie for money? In my mind, that’s just as bad.
Earlier this week, Upton lost custody of her daughter, but since it was confirmed this was all a hoax Britney is back with her mom. I don’t know if teaching your kid it’s okay to lie is grounds to have your child taken away by the authorities, but this woman needs some serious parenting classes.
What do you think? If you were in Upton’s position, would you have gone along with the lie? Do you see a problem with what she did? Weigh in in the comments below.
