Yes, The Words Budget And Beauty Can Go Together: 5 Ways To Look Good Without Shelling Out
May 1, 2009
'Budget' is quite the buzz word these days, but not one we necessarily like to hear associated with our beauty routines. However, there are some ways to cut back on the expenses incurred keeping ourselves presentable that will yield amazing results – both for your bank account and your appearance. Check out some of our tips below:
1. Beautify at home.
There are tons of products in your fridge that can work wonders on your face (or hair). Dry skin benefits from a nice oatmeal and egg mask, while damaged hair just needs a cold beer -seriously, there are proteins in there. But if you need a little more expert guidance you can also try Kiss EverLasting Nails or Express-On Nails ($6) which look real but don't cost nearly as much as a salon manicure. And for a good tan, try the Solerra Mitt ($25) or Model Co Tan Airbrush in a Can ($42) – neither will leave messy dark stuff on your hands.
For your face, try a peel that costs a fraction of the professional ones – Therapy Systems' Self-Adjusting Facial Peel Kit ($85) is one of the best.
Fight the grays with a home dye that actually works. Clairol's Perfect 10 ($14) or Nice 'N' Easy Root Touch Up ($7) both do wonders to cover roots, thus extending the time between mandatory salon visits.
2. Join the club.
Go on different websites and sign up for their promotional newsletters. Sephora's Beauty Insider Club sends out special deals all the time to its members. And Kerastase offers 30% off its soon-to-be discontinued beauty products when you use the code VIP30. (And for the first week of May, Kerastase is offering its members a free salon treatment at participating salons throughout the country.)
3. Go to school.
Tons of salon schools offer cuts to clients at a discount. Go to beautyschool.com or beautyschoolsdirectory.com to find one near you. Or browse our Hair at Home Guide for other ways to maintain your locks.
4. Ask your salon.
Check out your own salon for any special deals they may have going on. Right now, Ted Gibson is hosting Recessionista Tuesdays with blowouts for $40 and color for $75.
5. Shop the sample sales.
Sample sales are expanding into beauty with sales happening as we speak
on items like Lierac Skin Care. Make it easier on
yourself and sign up for our newsletter – we'll send you the weekly sample sale scoop every Monday and tell you what sales are worth clicking to.
