I recently had the pleasure of being invited on a trip to Dubai (you can find out more about that here!) and of course, I was stoked. But as someone who doesn’t enjoy flying, I was more than a little nervous about the 12-13 hour flight. Prior to this trip, the 7-hour flight to Paris was the longest plane ride I’d ever taken.
As luck would have it, though, I got extra special treatment on my flight to Dubai: business class, baby! Honestly, I was never more excited to fly in my life.
First things first, getting to the airport. If you fly business or first class with Emirates you can book a complimentary car service (in over 70 different cities) that will pick you up and drop you off right at the terminal. Once you check in (FYI, there is a special lane just for business class), you can wait and board your flight from the lounge. Sadly, the lounge was under construction during my trip, but to compensate they gave us a $40 meal voucher to use in the terminal.
Once it is time to board (you’ll be one of the first on the plane), you find your seat and are greeted with a selection of drinks including champagne. And when I say seat, I actually mean your own little hub. Each ‘seat’ has a chair that goes all the way flat like a bed, a 23″ TV, a mini bar, an iPad, a side table, headphones and comforter and pillow. See for yourself:
But that’s not all. Flight attendants also come around with a complimentary bag of Bulgari travel essentials and hot towels. After takeoff, they will even come around to put a mattress on your seat for when you sleep. And if you want to get up and stretch, no problem. There is a lounge towards the back of business class complete with a bar.
If you’re wondering about the food, I can assure you it doesn’t disappoint. At the beginning of the flight, you are given a food and wine menu to have on hand. You choose your lunch option that comes with an appetizer, main, and dessert or some light bite options and then breakfast. And let’s be clear, this is not your typical plane food. It’s a full out meal with side salads, bread and pastries. Some of the options on my flight included a grilled lamb rack, a cheese board and French toast. Best of all? The food is actually good! It does not taste like it was made on a plane at all.
This flight was so seamless and comfortable that I honestly could have flown another 12 hours no problem. Obviously, flying business class is on the pricier side, but if you really want to treat yourself, this is the way to do it. All of the little details make it worth it. Get this: when it’s time to get your luggage, you don’t even have to take it off the conveyer belt; the staff takes it off and put it to the side for you.
If you’re going on a long trip, I would highly recommend looking into it.
