Starting off your day on the right track is an important component of weight loss. Specifically, sticking to healthy foods in the morning can help set the tone for the rest of your day, encouraging you to keep making healthy decisions. Unfortunately, many popular breakfast foods are high in sugar and calories, which can be a challenge for your metabolism.

With that in mind, keep reading for the 4 foods you should never have before 10 AM!

Pre-Mixed Oatmeal

Speaking to Eat This, Not That!, Isabel Smith, MS, RD, CDN, registered dietitian and founder of Isabel Smith Nutrition, explains why pre-mixed oatmeal packets are a bad idea--especially when compared to other, weight-loss friendly oatmeal options.

She explains, "When we choose premixed oatmeal, we typically get less fiber because the grain is generally more processed, and more added sugar."

Bagels

Bagels are a classic breakfast choice, but, unless you have a day full of activity planned, should probably be avoided. The average bagel has about 3-4 times the amount of carbs of a slice of bread.

Plus, according to Health, "Most bagels lack vitamins, minerals, and fiber. Without fiber, the carbohydrates in a bagel digest quickly, convert to sugar, and then, very possibly, to fat."

Cereal

Many breakfast cereals that might seem healthy are actually high in sugar and low in protein and fiber. According to CNN, these cereals can "cause a blood sugar spike and crash before lunchtime."

Starting your day like this can lead to tiredness and hunger, which can make it even more difficult to make healthy decisions.

Bacon and Sausage

Processed meats are often seen as an essential addition to your favorite breakfast. Unfortunately, their high fat and salt contents (as well as their chemical preservatives) render them a dangerous addition to any meal--especially the most important meal of the day.
