Summer is coming in hot, and it’s bringing so many gorgeous hair trends with it!
Last summer, everyone was obsessed with balayage, a highlighting technique that creates a graduated, natural-looking effect. But this summer is going to be about experimenting with new colors, textures, cuts, and accessories!
Here are 4 hair trends that should be on your radar for the season. Trust us, you’ll definitely want to take some screenshots for your next hair appointment!
Summer 2018 Hair Trends:
1. Blunt Bobs with Texture
Celebrity hairstylist Cervando Maldonado, who has worked with A-listers like Reese Witherspoon, Kirsten Dunst, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Felicity Jones, predicts that everyone will be making major length changes this summer with blunt bobs. “To achieve this particular cut, make sure you find a stylist who specializes in shorter hair,” he explains to BYRDIE. “You can keep the look of your cut precise by getting a cut every four to eight weeks. But styling will vary depending on the type and texture of your hair.”
2. Pinned Back
Summer is fun and all, but it’s also when your flyaways are more prominent because of the humidity. If you’re tired of dealing with sweaty strands falling in your face, you should definitely try the pinned back look. Grab some 90s-inspired and pin back the sides of your hair. You can go with something minimalist and chic like the street style model above, or make a bold statement with some adorned, chunky barrettes. “Barrettes are going to be big in 2018 and the coolest way to wear them is to slide in almost level with the top of your ear,” celebrity hairstylist and Herbal Essences ambassador Ben Cooke tells ELLE. “Keep the texture natural and almost undone to let the barrette do the talking.”
3. Dirty Blonde Color
What trends will celebrities be trying this summer? It looks like they’re all about dirty blonde hair. Stars like Selena Gomez and Lily Collins have been embracing the trend, which calls for keeping the roots dark and adding a warm golden blond to the lengths. “It used to be about getting your hair whiter than white because it was so unattainable,” Alex Brownsell, BLEACH’s creative director, tells ELLE. “Golden shades with warmer tones all over is the new platinum.”
4. Silver Hair
Dirty pastels like Watermelon Hair and gray hair were all the rave last year, but summer 2018 is going to take it up a notch with silver hair. This shade adds luxe to your strands with its super shiny and metallic finish. “Silver is the new gray because metallics are really hot right now, from make-up and clothes, right through to hair,” says award-winning colorist Jack Howard. “Silver is the shinier incarnation of flatter-looking gray. To work it for 2018, you can either do a tempting gloss to give you a gorgeous shimmer or go full throttle and have it super extreme.”
