Although metabolism boosts in the morning can start your day off right, it can be difficult to decide what to do when that initial boost wears off by midday. Lisa Richards, nutritionist and author of The Candida Diet, explains, “At this point in the day, we are typically tired and more easily susceptible to poor diet choices and decisions that will slow our metabolism.” With that in mind, we consulted experts to learn the best ways to give your metabolism the boost it needs midday.

Read on for the 4 life-changing midday tips to boost your metabolism and burn calories fast.

High Protein Foods

Although it may be tempting to reach for high carb foods in the middle of the day, you should probably stay away from them. Richards recommends choosing a protein-rich snack instead. She explains, "Turn to high protein sources of food rather than carb-based foods."

Because protein is a great way to boost your metabolism naturally, choosing a protein-filled snack can help your metabolic functioning throughout the middle of the day. Opting for a protein bar or a pack of nuts and seeds can be a smart way to ensure that you are getting your fill of protein midday.

Green Tea

Feeling tired by the middle of the day is common, so many people turn to convenient sources of caffeine like soda and coffee. However, choosing green tea instead could be a better choice for your metabolism. Richards says, "Drink a glass of antioxidant-rich green tea over sugar-laden coffee or soda."

Green tea is a popular choice for its multitude of health benefits (including boosting your metabolism), and it is also a healthy source of caffeine to help you get through your midday fatigue.

Take a Walk

If you have the opportunity to go for a walk during your lunch break, take it. Not only will the fresh air give you a nice break, but going for a walk can also help boost your metabolism in the middle of the day.

"Take a walk around the block or around your office to burn some calories and get your metabolism going," Richards tells SheFinds.

Drink Water

Richards also suggests keeping up your water intake. Keeping yourself hydrated is a necessary part of taking care of your metabolism and your overall health.

Jamie Bacharach, health expert and licensed medical acupuncturist at Acupuncture Jerusalem, explains the necessity of staying hydrated: "Your body needs water in order to maintain proper internal processes - without water, your body will dehydrate and your metabolic rate will slow." In order to prevent this, aim to drink 1-2 liters of water throughout the day.
