Bath & Body Works may be your go to place for scents of all kinds—candles, air fresheners, hand sanitizers, essential oils, even perfumes, body mists, hand soaps, and lotion—but a former employee just revealed some secrets that may change your mind. TikTok user @TaylorMarieVisneski and former B&BW employee just revealed 5 scary truths about the chain’s products.

1. Hand Soaps Can Cause Thyroid Issues

The first item on Taylor’s list is the hand soaps. Bath & Body works carries a variety of different types and scents of hand soaps. You can get foaming soaps, gel soaps, and refills for either of those options, and they come in hundreds of different classic and seasonal scents. However, Taylor just dropped a pretty scary bombshell.

“Their hand soaps had to be reformulated because the prior ingredients contained a chemical that would affect people’s thyroids,” she wrote. “I had a customer with a thyroid condition come in & tell me alllll about it. My jaw was on the floor.” Your thyroid is located in your neck, and its main job is to produce hormones that controls how your body uses energy. Damage to the thyroid can cause a number of issues, including abnormal heart rate, mood swings, unstable energy levels, metabolism issues, poor bone health, and many more.

2. Candles Explode

The next issue has to do with what is probably their most popular product: candles. Bath & Body Works stocks hundreds of candles, with scents ranging from iced lemon pound cake to blush amber & peony and main street bakery to mahogany teakwood. But according to Taylor, these could actually be a hazard to your home and health.

"Candles explode quite often & people would come in with them shattered & charred," she revealed. "Yes, our return & exchange policy was amazing." Reports of this happening are not uncommon, and customers have reported first and second degree burns as a result of this issue.

3. Wall Flower Plug-Ins Can Cause Sinus Infections

If you're not a candle kind of person and prefer a room freshener, you may have one of Bath & Body Works' Wall Flower Plug-Ins. But according to Taylor, these aren't safe either.

"The oil from the [Wall Flower] bulbs can cause sinus infections (ear, respiratory, & throat issues as well) and leak into the wall & furniture," she said. "Do not plug them in anywhere anything can get damaged. Be mindful where the oil will be diffusing."

One person in the video's comment section shared her personal experience with these products: "Their wall plug ins gave me the BIGGEST headaches for like 6 months and I figured it out and stopped buying them—the headaches went away." Yikes!

4. Wall Flower Plug-Ins, Candles, & Essential Oils Can Cause Respiratory Issues

Issue #4 not only affects humans, but animals, too. "[Wall Flower] bulbs, candles, and the essential oils all can cause respiratory issues not only in humans, but animals too," Taylor wrote. And again, people in the comment section agreed with her.

One user revealed she is also a former employee, and commented, "Can also agree with this. i worked at their call center for 4 years and I can't even tell you how many people called to talk to legal."

5. Body Care Can Cause Dry Skin & Flare Ups

Finally, Bath & Body Works' entire line of body care is under fire, too. B&BW stocks hand soaps, hand lotion, body soaps and shower gels, body lotion, body mists, hand sanitizers, body scrubs, hair care, and lip care, but none of it is apparently safe for all skin types.

"The body care can cause dry skin & flare ups," Taylor wrote. If you have sensitive skin, it may be best to stop putting any Bath & Body Works products anywhere on your body. In fact, for your overall health and safety, it might be best to stop using B&BW products all together.
