1. L'oven Fresh Pre-Sliced Bagel Skinnys
One of the most controversial foods in the wellness industry is bagels, as they're known for being high in carbohydrates and paired with fattening ingredients like cream cheese, sliced cheese, butter, etc. However, you can still eat bagels and lose weight, especially when you're better able to control your portions, like via these sliced bagel 'skinnys.'
"The Bagel Skinnys offer portion awareness without cutting carbs entirely," explains registered dietitian Kathleen Benson, CSSD, CPT, RDN at VNutrition.
2. Simply Nature Almond Butter
If you're a real fan of nut butters like peanut and almond butter, it's recommended that you keep the latter in your diet, as it can provide a great source of healthy fats. Healthy fats found in almond butter can help balance other meals into something more satiating and provide a nice treat throughout the day.
"Almond butter slows digestion and helps prevent a blood sugar crash," notes Benson, who suggests pairing Aldi's almond butter with the bagel thins or a sliced apple. "This pairing can reduce late-day grazing and make it easier to arrive at dinner comfortably hungry rather than overly hungry."
3. Simply Nature Organic Whole Milk Vanilla Bean Greek Yogurt
Greek yogurt is one of the wellness community's favorite picks for a filling, weight-loss-friendly grocery staple. It makes for a great breakfast, snack, or dessert base, and can be paired with a lot of fruits or low-sugar granolas. Benson especially likes this type of yogurt, which she says can be more satisfying than a low-fat version.
"I picked this because full-fat Greek yogurt is more satiating than low-fat versions and provides a solid protein base," she explains. "When paired with berries, it adds fiber and volume that support fullness and digestion. If eaten before a workout, adding a small portion of granola provides quick carbohydrates, which can help fuel training and support recovery."
4. Simply Nature Organic Peppered Beef Jerky
If you're a meat lover and enjoy finding other ways to get in your protein throughout the day besides having large portions of meat with your lunch and dinners, then you should start eating some beef jerky. Benson approves of Aldi's Simply Nature version, which comes in various flavors.
"Jerky is helpful for weight loss because it's portable, protein-dense, and satisfying, especially for people who struggle with afternoon or on-the-go hunger," she says. "Pairing it with fruit or crackers can make it more balanced, but even on its own, it can help prevent long gaps between meals that often lead to overeating later."
