According to this 2016 study, "Scientists have discovered that a molecule in pomegranates, transformed by microbes in the gut, enables muscle cells to protect themselves against one of the major causes of aging." Clinical trials are underway, but this sounds like a pretty good reason to eat more pomegranates!

Pomegranates are antioxidant-rich, anti-inflammatory and contain vitamins A, C and E. According to Debra Jaliman, MD, an assistant professor of dermatology at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, the juice of pomegranate seeds contain ellagic acid and punicalagin, which are compounds that help fight free radicals and preserve collagen.

"Research has shown that pomegranates have incredible anti-microbial, anti-aging, and anti-inflammatory properties. These go a long way in encouraging super radiant skin, both when eaten and applied topically onto the skin," Advanced Dermatology reports. Drinking 100% pomegranate juice is great (and delicious) way to reap some of these benefits, too!

Eating pomegranate seeds are another way to get in on some of the superfood's amazing benefits. There's also a pomegrante seed oil that, when applied topically, can aid in regeneration of epidermis, Dr. Jaliman says.
