Cardio, weight training and crunches are all part of keeping fat off your belly, but adding an anti-inflammatory supplement to your healthy diet and exercise routine can help you achieve your flat belly goals.
Capsaicin is the part of cayenne pepper that makes it feel super hot in your mouth. Dr. Luiza Petre, MD, director of the Medi-Weightloss Clinics, says that fiery sensation speeds up metabolism, curbs your appetite and prevents fat from building up on your belly. Thanks to a process called thermogenesis, capsaicin ups your body’s heat production and stimulates your system to burn fat.
Grape Seed Extract
Munching on a handful of grapes is a solid snack but it won’t deliver any belly fat burning benefits. Grape seed extract comes from grinding the antioxidant-rich seeds of red wine grapes. Dr. Petre says there is emerging evidence that the extract will decrease fat absorption and enhance metabolism.
This flavorful root decreases insulin production, prevents rebound hunger and improves the functioning of the hormone leptin (it keeps you feeling full to avoid excess snacking). Dr. Petre says ginger can also lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone that makes you want to eat.
A study from The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that green tea, or a green tea supplement, may be able to help rev your metabolism and shed pounds. Compounds in the tea called catechins inhibit body fat from accumulating. Dr. Petre notes that green tea also slows down fat absorption and regulates insulin levels.
